Nehru Trust Awards - 2010-2011
In collaboration with the Charles Wallace (India) Trust, the Nehru Trust for the Indian Collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum (NTICVA) proposes to award three Fellowships for further professional training, study, education or research to citizens of India at an early stage of their professional career who are normally employed by museums, galleries or other specified institutions concerned with the preservation, study and display of India’s art and cultural heritage.

The Fellowships will be tenable at the Victoria & Albert Museum or associated institutions in the United Kingdom normally for a period of three months, during April 2010 to March 2011 and will provide a maintenance allowance adequate for a single person and return airfare from and to India.


The NTICVA proposes to make two awards for the year April 2010 to March 2011 to provide the opportunity for citizens of India who are established scholars or professionals working in museums, galleries or other specified institutions concerned with the preservation, study and display of India’s art and cultural heritage to visit the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and approved associated institutions for short periods for study and for the exchange of ideas and discussion with colleagues in the United Kingdom on matters of mutual professional interest to do with the promotion of India’s cultural heritage.

The awards, which will be a maximum of £1,000, are intended to be held in conjunction with awards from other bodies as a part-cost contribution towards maintenance and / or airfare from and to India.


The Trust proposes to award a number of small study and research grants to Indian scholars and professionals engaged in the study of India's art and culture for the purpose of facilitating access to research materials in the United Kingdom.

These awards, which will normally be of a maximum of £ 500, are available to Indian scholars needing to acquire primary research materials (copies of documentation, photographs and other unpublished materials, and, in exceptional circumstances, printed and published material) essential to their research, from the Victoria and Albert Museum or other approved institutions in the United Kingdom. Applicants are advised to specify the exact nature of the research materials required at the outset of their proposal.


The NTICVA proposes to award upto eight Small Study and Research Grants of Rs. 15,000/- for the year April 2010 to March 2011 to Indian scholars and professional engaged in the study of India’s art and culture for the purposes of :-

- Facilitating access to research material in the United Kingdom upto £500 whether at the Victoria and Albert Museum or other UK approved institutions.
- Travel within India for research and study and other research costs.


The Trust proposes to make three awards to UK-based scholars or professionals employed by museums, galleries or other specified institutions concerned with the preservation, study and display of India's art and cultural heritage, for short visits to India for the purpose of research, training, scholarship or professional collaboration.

The awards, which will be of a maximum of Rs. 50,000, are intended to be held in conjunction with awards from other bodies as a part-cost contribution towards the costs of maintenance and internal travel expenses within India. Applicants are expected to fund international travel travel costs from other sources.

At the conclusion of the tenure of their awards, recipients of awards will be required to submit a report of their work and a financial statement of their expenses, along with copies of their initial estimates. This statement should be certified by a representative of the award holder's employer or host institution or his / her academic supervisor.



Jain Art Fund Awards

1. UK Visiting Fellowship
For up to 3 months UK based research (maximum grant £3800).

2. UK Travel Awards
For 2 short study trip awards to the UK (maximum grant £1000).

3. India Travel Awards
For UK based researchers and curators (maximum grant £1000, possibly 2 grants of £500).

4. Small Study and Research Grants (India)
Maximum grant Rs. 15,000/-
